Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite Science Fiction & Fantasy in Other Media

What a widely variable topic. So many options and to narrow it down to five. How cruel. Okay, I’m going for five fantasy and five Sci-Fi TV series. I’m leaving out urban horror and focusing on pure Fantasy and Sci-Fi or else this list will get to long. Doctor Who is also not in the list as it’s a given.

The Fantasy list.

This is one of my top five favoured series of all time in any genre.

Quirky, funny and sweet. I’m very upset that TNT canceled the show this month.

Fantasy series really have it hard. (Well, not if they’re Game of Thorns that is.) Only lasted one season, but had the wonderful Paul Blackthorne as the lead. Based on the book series of the same name.

I love how this series goes from zero to hundred in a few seconds. Calm to the point of being dull and… BAM something horrific just happened. I’ve fallen behind and need to catch up with the series.

The first season. Haven’t seen the rest yet. Hats off to Robert Carlyle playing an excellent Rumplestiltskin.

 The Sci-Fi list.

There was no way this wasn’t making the list. Another one of my top five favoured series of all time in any genre.

A masterpiece of sci-fi, animation and writing.

Bad ass bounty hunters kicking butt across the galaxy. Love it.

All of them, but especially Atlantis. And now we get to see Ronon Dex running around as Aquaman.

This is just barely beating the behemoth that is Star Trek. I really like Star Trek, but I have fond memories watching Farscape. It hasn’t aged to well, but it’s still a creative and unique sci-fi series.

Now can anyone tell me if the new Dirk Gently series is Fantasy or Sci-Fi?

  1. Great list! I am on the struggle bus this week – I can’t seem to narrow down my answers at all! SciFi and Fantasy is basically my life. But Jonathan Strange and the Magicians are some of my absolute favorite series. Jonathan Strange was beautifully shot and acted, and Magicians is such a good balance of humor and grim situations.

  2. This is a great list! There’s so many I haven’t seen yet. I want to watch The Magicians but I’ve wanted to read the book first. Did you read the book at all? Which did you prefer?

    1. Thanks. 🙂 I haven’t read the books yet. I might one day, but not high on my list at the moment. Would be interesting to see how the two compare.

  3. Firefly and Farscape are a couple of my all-time favorite shows! I haven’t seen Killjoys or Librarians yet but I’ve heard good things about them.
